Hand in Hand Tutoring
Tutor. Love. Affirm. Prepare. Listen. Befriend.
Serving Opportunities:
Hand in Hand is a tutoring program born during the height of the Covid pandemic in 2020. St. Mark’s partnered with Positive Attitude Youth Center (PAYC) to provide a camp for at-risk youth in an apartment complex in East Burlington. It was in that very first day that Jesus spoke to the organizers of the camp that more needed to be done to help these children. We needed to have a presence in East Burlington in order to build relationships and love these children like Jesus. PAYC was in complete agreement with us and joined in to help. From that point, we have worked “Hand in Hand” with them. Each child has a lesson plan especially catered to them to fit their need. Leslie does her best to keep each individual child with the same tutor from week to week. We want to help these kids establish relationships with adults who love them and are invested in their futures.
Hand in Hand will be starting our fifth school year in the Fall of 2024. Leslie Woody has taken on being director with such a passion for the students and the staff at PAYC. Leslie is always looking for tutors. Hand in Hand meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at 3 pm.
