For almost 50 years, Residential Treatment Services of Alamance (RTSA) has provided 24-hour services to individuals in the community with addiction and mental health challenges. RTSA operates a crisis unit, which provides non-hospital medical detoxification for alcoholics and addicts, and facility-based services for people in mental health crisis. There are specialized programs for men, a home for mental illness, and a recovery home for homeless women.
Referrals come from local physicians, Hospital Emergency Rooms, and mental health/substance abuse treatment providers. Self-referrals are also welcome.
SERVING OPPORTUNITIES:
Project: “Fill the Truck”
Description: RTSA can bring the Trollinger Treasures Box Truck to the Church and leave it for a day or weekend during which time volunteers can “fill the truck” with donations (i.e. clothing, household goods, furniture, books, etc.). All donated items are sold in the thrift store and all proceeds benefit the RTSA recovery programs.
Contact: Call 336.227.8500 to schedule a truck.
Project: “Women Helping Women” Jewelry Benefit Sale
Description: Each fall RTSA has a sale of donated jewelry to benefit our Mebane Street Recovery Home for Women. Donated jewelry is accepted year-round, and volunteers clean and price the jewelry for the annual sale. Groups are encouraged to have a jewelry drive where women clean out the jewelry boxes of items they no longer wear, and donate it to assist women who are building strong personal recovery programs.
Jewelry Drives: Donated jewelry can be dropped off at Trollinger Treasures (403 Trollinger St. Burlington), or at the Administrative Offices (125 Glendale Ave. Burlington).
Volunteers: In addition to donations, individuals are needed to help clean donated jewelry, tag it, and put it in bags to be ready for pricing.
Contact: Call 336.227.2994 for more information.
ADDITIONAL DRIVES: Could be conducted by a group(s).
Project: Toiletry Bags for those in Crisis Unit
Description: Each year, approximately 500 toiletry bags are needed for the patients of the Detoxification/Crisis Unit. Donation drives could be conducted by a group(s), then arrange for an “assembly” party.
Toiletry bags would include: a bar of soap, shampoo, conditioner, a comb or brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, deodorant, a disposable razor, shaving cream, lotion, sanitary napkins, and a note of encouragement.
Other items needed: Men’s and women’s socks, underwear (including bras), flip flops, and shoes. All sizes!
Project: Linen Drive
Description: TSA has 43 beds in four facilities. Twin sheets, pillow cases, pillow protectors, and mattress protectors are needed. Towels, hand towels, and washcloths are also needed. (Preferably all linen donations are white)
Project: Paper Products Drive
Description: RTSA could use a “paper product” drive for items such as toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, paper plates, and cups. A lot of money is spent on paper products for our four facilities.
Contact: Call the RTSA office at 336.227.2994 for more information.
