Easter Conspiracy: The Crowd
Our Easter series will explore those who denied Christ—and learn about the truth that is too good to be a conspiracy!
1.What is your earliest picture of Palm Sunday and its meaning?
Read Matthew 21:1-11.
2. How does the context and history Pete talked about surrounding Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem add to or change your view of Palm Sunday? (For example, what does the fact that palm branches symbolized rebellion against Rome tell us?)
3. What kind of savior was the crowd in this passage looking for?
4. Discuss how we are similar to this crowd. What are our expectations or assumptions about God regarding power and prosperity? What does Jesus offer instead?
Read Matthew 27:15-23.
5. What was your earliest picture of who Barabbas was? How has what Pete said in his sermon or the podcast given you a new understanding of why the crowd chose Jesus Barabbas over Jesus of Nazareth?
6. Talk about the fact that the crowds in this passage were the same crowds in the passage we read first. What does this show us about our own human nature?
7. How does anchoring ourselves in the truth that Jesus Christ is an altogether different type of savior from what the world seeks give you a fresh outlook heading into Holy Week and Easter?
