Origin Stories: Genesis 1

This series will explore familiar stories and people in the opening books of the Bible, asking these primary questions: What do these stories tell us about God? What do they tell us about humanity? What can we learn about our relationship with God?

1. Before jumping in, read Genesis 1.

2. Look closely at Genesis 1:1-3. How do these first three verses introduce us to who God is?

3. Read Romans 1:20. How does the rest of the Genesis 1 account show us God’s invisible characteristics? How does reading it symmetrically help being clarity?

4. Re-read Genesis 1:14. Why are “sacred seasons (or times)” so important to understanding the creation story?

5. In taking a closer look at the Genesis 1 creation account, discuss what you have learned about God, about humanity (yourself included), and about the relationship between God and humanity (yourself included)?
