Simple Living: “Celebration”
This series focuses on themes like simplicity, presence, surrender, and gratitude in the re-ordering or our priorities as we seek to live a simpler, more generous life.
1. As we finish up our Simple Living series, talk about some of the more impactful parts of this series. As a reminder, some of the practices we focused on here simplicity, contentment, presence, generosity, and secrecy.
2. This week, we focus on celebration. Do you have any stories of awkwardness around celebration like Jessica and Pete discussed in the Primer Podcast?
We will be looking at the theme of celebration through three different lenses: gratitude, Sabbath, and worship.
3. Read Philippians 4:4-5. Paul invites us to rejoice in the Lord always. What is rejoicing in the Lord like for you?
4. In your group, share 3 things for which you are grateful.
5. Talk about your understandings, or misunderstanding, of Sabbath. How were you taught about this essential practice? Have you ever thought of Sabbath as something other than rest?
6. Do you currently practice Sabbath? If so, what do you do? If not, what are some challenges for you about this practice?
7. Why do you think Sabbath was important enough to be the 4th commandment (something we tend to forget)?
8. Pete reminded us in the sermon that Paul wrote the letter to the Philippians while he was in jail. How does this affect your understanding of his exhortation to “rejoice in the Lord always”?
9. Read and discuss Acts 16:22-25. As you close your time, talk about this remarkable moment. What do you think God wants to do in your lives through your worship, regardless of your circumstances?
