Compassion

Compassion is the DNA of Jesus.  Throughout his life and ministry, we read in the Bible we read in the gospels how he empathized with people who were struggling physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.  Because of the human he was, he understood how people felt, because of his holiness he wanted to heal them to make them whole.

Compassion is not to be found only in Jesus’ heart, though. He is an example of how we are to live.  His heart ached for them, so he took action and did something for them.  Isn’t that what we’re to do also?  In this day and time, now more than ever, we need to show compassion.  We need to live out compassion.

Think of simple ways to show compassion to others and remember a little bit goes a long way.  Teachers required to teach online, medical workers who are exhausted from COVID, a co-worker in the middle of a divorce, a friend who lost a loved one, a single parent, church leaders, police officers – anyone and everyone.  All need compassion, whether they know it or not.

“When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few.  So pray to them Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”

Matthew 9:36-37
