Be. In Wonder.
March 20, 2022
We hope this guide will help you take the good news you hear today into your daily lives.
We’ve been exploring how the pace and noise of life makes it harder to cultivate our relationship with God. When we slow down enough to be present, we notice and appreciate beauty—we experience wonder.
Notes and Scripture
He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.
How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small.
All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord. But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the Lord, my soul. Praise the Lord.
Psalm 104:5-8; 24-25; 27-30; 33-35
David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished. The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the work on the temple of God, and every willing person skilled in any craft will help you in all the work. The officials and all the people will obey your every command.”
1 Chronicles 28:20-21
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 18: 1-4
Going Deeper: Be In Wonder
We live in a left-brained world, relying mainly on logical, analytical thinking. While there’s nothing wrong with this, we sometimes underutilize our imaginative, intuitive, creative right brains.
Take some time this week to draw, paint, or write poetry. Or, take a walk, hike, or jog (without your smart phone), paying attention to the wonders of nature. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell?
In creative reflection, offer God praise for all He has created.
