B.L.E.S.S. (Begin with Prayer)

Our new series, BLESS Your Heart, is based on the book B.L.E.S.S. by Dave and Jon Ferguson, which outlines five practical ways to love our neighbors and share our faith. This week, we “Begin with Prayer.”

  1. What are your earliest memories of praying? Did you pray in a specific place or with particular people? Was there one particular way of praying or specific prayer you said?

  2. What kind of things keep us from prayer? What do you find most challenging about prayer?

  3. Prayer is a conversation in which we talk to God, and he talks to us. Have you ever felt a prompting from God to reach out to someone? How did you respond? What was the result?

  4. When you think of evangelism, what comes to mind? What forms or strategies of evangelism have you engaged in, or experienced? Discuss some pros and cons, or results.

  5. In the podcast, Jarm said that B.L.E.S.S. is not a technique for evangelism, but a set of spiritual practices for living out your faith through relationship. What are some key differences?

  6. Why do you think we “begin with prayer”?

  7. In your group, discuss some of the people where you live, work or play that you can begin to pray for. Then, pray together, asking God to give you opportunities to B.L.E.S.S. them.

Some questions above appeared first in the book B.L.E.S.S. by Dave and Jon Ferguson.
