The Wise Men’s Christmas Roadtrip (Part 2)
Our Advent series, Christmas Roadtrip, examines the ways we seek out Jesus through the eyes and journey of the wise men who sought him out that first Christmas season.
Ice Breaker: Fil and Jessica engaged in a meaningful conversation about memorable road trips. Talk about your unforgettable journeys and how they shaped you.
Read Hebrews 12:1-3, a passage that encourages perseverance and faith. This passage is a powerful reminder that our spiritual journey is not a sprint but a marathon. It's about enduring and staying focused on our faith, just as the runners in a race do.
After reading, dive into the following questions inspired by the key points from Fil’s sermon.
Run Freely
Consider what weighs you down, trips you up, or keeps you from running freely in your spiritual journey. Fil mentioned friends, relationships, work, or financial burdens as possibilities, but your journey is unique. Discuss what may uniquely hold you back because your experience matters.
Run Focused
a. What tangible steps can you take to “fix your eyes” on Jesus?
b. The Wise Men traveled together, which highlights the importance of community. How can surrounding yourself with supportive people enhance your journey? Who are the “wise individuals” you have or can connect with on this path?
Run Faithfully
Fil emphasized that faith is about trust, not just intellectual knowledge: “By faith, I don’t mean a bunch of knowledge or beliefs stored in our heads. I mean TRUST, which proves that God is on the move, calling us to follow.”
a. Reflect on when you leaned on your faith, trusting that God is actively working in your life. How is God inviting you to follow Him this Advent season?
b. Fil also mentioned, “Only the person who has experienced the love of Jesus truly knows what it is.” Your experiences of this love are not just valuable; they are essential to our shared journey. Share them with your group, as they can motivate and inspire others.
Your actions can profoundly impact their lives, making this season a time of transformation and hope for all. Finally, talk about how we can embody and share that love with others this Christmas season.
