Hazmat (Week 7)
This week we will discuss what it means to be “fruit-focused” with a close look at our lives and the Fruit of the Spirit.
1. Think about someone you know, or have known, who exemplifies the fruit of God’s Spirit. What impact have you seen them make in your life and in others’ lives?
Read Galatians 5:16-18.
2. How do you understand the division Paul sets up between the “flesh” and the “Spirit”?
3. How does the “law” come into play here (v.18: “if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law”)?
Read Galatians 5:19-23.
4.Which Fruit of the Spirit is easiest for you to display? Which is most difficult?
5. How does reading these passages together highlight the contrast between living life from the prison of sin and living life sustained by the Spirit?
6. In the sermon this week, Pete talked about sin as a “corrupted relationship” between ourselves, God, others, and creation. Which of these do you most think of when you think about sin? Which of these have you thought about least when you think about sin?
Read John 15:1-5.
7. How has God’s “pruning” helped your life become more fruitful?
8. What does it look like for you to “remain” or “abide” in Christ?
9. As we close out our Hazmat series, discuss some of the larger themes we have explored on the toxicity of sin that have made an impact on you. What ideas have challenged you the most?
To jog your memory, here are some of the themes from the series:
· Sin as a prison or condition, instead of individual behaviors
· Spirit-sustained sanctification
· Discipleship
· Fruit-focused living
