Missional Heart (Week 2—Women and Children)

In our series, Missional Heart: The Restorative Nature of the Gospel, we will dive into the four pillars that make up the heartbeat of our mission to make Jesus famous by becoming more like Him.

Read Luke 8:40-56.

1. What questions come up when you read through this story?

2. Between Jairus, the woman with constant bleeding, the crowd, and the disciples, what character do you most relate to? What do they see, hear, think, and feel during the story?

3. From what you know from history, how has the culture concerning women and children changed throughout the years?

4. What expectations do you think most of the people who followed Jesus had?

5. Why do you think Jesus put women and children at the forefront of cultural restoration?

6. Everyone had an expectation of how they thought the Messiah should change things. Whether it was military leader, politician, or something supernatural they expected Him to change their situation in a big way. Why do you think Jesus chose to change culture (the way people collectively think about something) one person at a time?

7. What are other examples where Jesus went outside of cultural norms to help someone?
