Mercy

We hope this guide will help you take the good news you hear today into your daily lives.

On Holy Wednesday, we focus on the reality that though we were yet enemies, in God’s mercy, God spares us, taking the sting of death away. In his mercy, Jesus hangs on the cross on our behalf.

Key Scripture Passages

John 17:20-26 (NIV)

Luke 22:54-62 (NIV)

Matthew 27:22-31 (NIV)

Mark 15: 22-26; 33-39 (NIV)

Reflect on Mercy

In Peter’s denial, we are forced to stand face-to-face with our own sin, shame and insecurity. In our shame we hide from Jesus, we deny his mercy and we join the crowd shouting “CRUCIFY HIM.”

Take a few moments to reflect and journal on where you have allowed yourself to continue to live in your shame (comfort, consumption, security, and power) and deny the MERCY of God in your life.

In what ways do you hope for a powerful or celebrity savior?
