Abide in Truth
Nick Jordan | April 3, 2022
We hope this guide will help you take the good news you hear today into your daily lives.
In this series, we'll focus on the foundations of our faith, getting back to the basics as we seek to be faithful followers of Jesus in an ever-changing world. Today, Nick will talk about how we can abide in truth.
Notes and Scripture
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”
John 14:1-6
Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches
John 15:1-11
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
John 14:16-17
“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 14:25-26
Going Deeper: Where do you abide?
As Nick said today, a relationship with Jesus is not about having the right answers or the correct theology. It is about faith in the person Jesus, and learning to trust Him more each and every day. Jesus isn’t asking you to abandon your pursuit of truth. To the contrary, Jesus wants us to pursue and abide in Him, the Living Truth.
We encourage you to take some time this week with God in prayer, through the Spirit of Truth, to reflect on how you can abide, or dwell, in a daily, trusting relationship with Christ. Use one or all of these verses to guide you.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
John 14:16-17
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”
John 14:5-6
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:4-5
