Who Am I? “The Bread of Life”

Week 2 Group Study Questions

1. Read John 6:30-35 and then the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. If the Lord’s Prayer is familiar to you, slow down and reflect on each familiar phrase. What does “daily bread” mean to you? Does it refer mainly to physical provisions like food, shelter, or a job that provides these things? Or does it mean something different to you?

2. Think about the connection between “daily bread” and Jesus as the “Bread of Life” to the manna story in Exodus 16. How might there be a freedom in submitting to God for your deepest, most fundamental needs? Have you ever experienced the freedom of total dependence on God? If so, reflect on what it was, or is, like. If not, how might you submit to, or increase your dependence on, God?

3. What is your reaction to the word “submission”? What experiences have you had in biblical submission? Is this a challenge for you?

4. What does it look like for a leader to be submissive? Can you think of examples where Jesus was submissive? If so, how does this help redefine the term for you?

5. Why do you think we find it so hard to submit?
